Steve Irwin

Steve And Family

Steve was killed during a filming expedition on the Great Barrier Reef. While we are still collecting specific details, it was a rare accident in which Steve swam over a stingray and was stung by its barb in his chest. A doctor on board Croc One, Steve’s research vessel, was unable to resuscitate Steve and by the time he was reached by the rescue helicopter he had passed away.

Steve might have lived longer if he had stayed safely on the couch changing channels like the rest of us, but then millions of people would not have lived vicariously through him. What a sense of adventure! We’re all better off because he did what he loved doing.

Crikey, mate. You’re far safer dealing with crocodiles and western diamondback rattlesnakes than the executives and the producers and all those sharks in the big MGM building.

  1. I feel bad for his family. It is good that he was so successful doing something that he loved. With the amount that he made doing his research and filming, his family should be taken care of. He died doing what he loved doing.
I still havaen’t figured out a way to get paid for reading Joel’s blog!
