New MPG Ratings

EPA MPG

EPA has changed the way it estimates MPG.

Starting in model year 2008, estimates will reflect the effects of
* Faster Speeds & Acceleration
* Air Conditioner Use
* Colder Outside Temperatures

Examples:
2001 Chevrolet Impala with 3.8 V6 goes from 20/30 to 17/28.
2007 Toyota Corolla with automatic goes from 30/38 to 26/35

Hybrid car economics will face a new road test.

Now, after more than 20 years of producing mileage estimates that were far above what most drivers experienced, the EPA has added new testing procedures that more closely match what the average driver will experience.
