Compared to medicine or agriculture, the history of professional audio has been a comparatively short 125 years or so-barely a ripple in geologic time. But a whole lot has happened in that century and a quarter.

Even though his name is nearly synonymous with synthesizers, Bob Moog didn’t invent the instrument. ~ Moog took the most requested modules from his large modular systems and put them into an easy-to-use package that didn’t require patch cords or programming knowledge. It was unveiled at AES in 1970 and priced at $1,200.

When the DX7 launched in 1983, users were amazed by its purity of tone and its ability to mimic certain instruments-particularly struck percussion, chimes, electric pianos, etc.-and its wealth of cool synthesizer sounds.

My colleagues suggested I create this site, as they claim I seem to know of a freeware application for just about every purpose and they thought it’d be a good idea to share this information with everyone, so here it is – my list of favourite free applications. I’ll be adding to my list as time goes on, so please re-visit often.

This site is not intended to replace the like of download.com or Tucows. I love both of those sites, along with many of the other download sites, but if I want to find an application to do something quickly, they’re often not suitable
